Meet the Directors

The Alpena Conservation District currently has five directors. These directors help to steer the District in its conservation choices. The board is made up of five community members that have diverse background. But, all share the common goal of helping to conserve our natural resources. The board members are as follows:

Jim Chapman (Chairman) is a retired DNR Conservation Officer. Jim currently has a small cow/calf operation in Alpena county. Jim is a member of the Huron Shores County Farm Bureau and the Alpena MSU Extension Advisory Committee. Jim has been on the Alpena Conservation District board since 1998.

Kirk Kowalski (Vice Chairman) is a life long resident of Alpena County.  Kirk  was instrumental in the current preservation effort underway at El Cajon Bay.  Kirk was educated at Michigan State University where he received a bachelor of science in Resource Development.  Kirk is currently working with several Local/State groups on numerous conservation activities, including the Alpena Conservation District's water monitoring program.

Donna Compeau (Secretary/Treasurer) is retired from the Farm Services Agency ( formerly known as the ASCS) here in Alpena County. At the FSA, Donna served as a Program Assistant with the Conservation Programs. Donna is a member of the Michigan Snowmobile Association and serves as the treasurer for the Alpena Snowmobile Association. She has been on the Alpena Conservation District board since 1997.

Michael Timm (Director) currently operates a dairy farm in southern Alpena County.  Mike's farm, Holcomb Creek Dairy, was the first farm in the State to receive MAEAP verification for all three system.  Mike was recently elected to a 4 year term.  Mike is also very active in several other organizations such as Farm Bureau and MMPA (Michigan Milk Producers Association).  

Jeremy Werth (Director) currently works the family dairy farm in Alpena County.  Jeremy's farm, Butterwerth Dairy, has received MAEAP verification for all three system.  Jeremy was recently elected in 2005 to a four year term.  Jeremy is also a very active hunter and snowmobiler.
