Annual "Big Tree" Contest

Your friends at the Alpena Conservation District are looking for the biggest trees within the district.  This means all of Alpena County.  We will be looking for White Pine (our State Tree), Oak, Maple, Ash, Spruce, Red Pine, Tamarack, Birch, Popular, Elm, Hemlock, nut trees and or any other species that are large enough to qualify for the contest.  

In 2007, we had only one entry, a weeping willow measuring 141 inches, submitted by Mary Macdonald.  Congratulations Mary.

For 2008, the species to be judged are Red Pine, Cedar, and Ash .  For the official rules, and an entry form, please scroll down.  Best of luck.

 

OFFICIAL RULES

Please

Measure the

circumference

of the tree at 4

feet 6 inches from

the ground.  Permission

of landowner is required

if tree is on private property.

The contest begins October 1st

and ends September 30th  of each

year.  Prizes will be awarded.  Submit

a picture of the  tree along with the entry

form to The Alpena Conservation District office

by  September 30th .  Results of the entries will

be posted

on our

web site.
